A serendipitous moment happened in 2008 that would shape the next decade and a half of Jason's career trajectory. An image was captured of Jason at the precise moment a wild black bear was leaning in with its nose just inches away from his lens, the resulting photographed (pictured above) attracted so much attention online at the time that it resulted in the launch of Jason's passion project Whistler Photo Safaris Ltd, which is now one of Canada's leading bear viewing and photography tour companies. As a photographer, tour operator and an academic behavioral scientist, Jason has logged more time observing the wild bear population and their habitat in Whistler's Callaghan Valley than anyone else, and he and his team at Whistler Photo Safaris Ltd have unparalleled access to, and behavioral understanding of, this magnificent group of bears.
